CODA & Vertical Interface Masterclass: Architecting Aesthetic Stability from Design to Tissue Control with John Yu-Cheng Chu
ABOUT THE COURSE
The CODA & VIBE + INTERFACE Masterclass is a three-day advanced program designed for clinicians seeking greater control over aesthetic architecture and long-term soft tissue stability.
In dentistry, “VIBE” refers to the Vertical Incision Bilaminar Elevation technique developed by renowned aesthetic periodontist Dr. John Yu-Cheng Chu. It is an advanced microsurgical protocol designed for predictable papilla reconstruction and soft tissue volume enhancement.
The VIBE technique is specifically used in mucogingival and implant surgery to achieve stable, natural-looking results at the interface between restorative dentistry and soft tissue.
This masterclass combines anatomically driven smile design with vertical soft tissue augmentation. Participants will explore CODA (Cosmeticus Odontologica Dissignatio Anatomica)—a structured framework for aesthetic planning within biological limits—alongside VIBE (Vertical Incision Bilaminar Elevation) and MPT (Modified Platform Technique), advanced protocols for predictable papilla augmentation and soft tissue volume enhancement.
The program focuses on transforming compromised tissue conditions into stable biological support, enabling the transition from TU (Tissue Under-support) to TN (Tissue with Normal support).
AGENDA
DAY 1 – CODA: Anatomical Smile Architecture
Morning:
- Introduction to CODA (Cosmeticus Odontologica Dissignatio Anatomica)
- Smile Design Within Anatomical Limitations
- Tooth Morphology, Proportion, and Spatial Control
- Gingival Architecture and Structural Boundaries
Afternoon:
- Pink–White Integration Strategy
- Case Study: From Design to Implementation
- From Digital Planning to Biological Feasibility
- Clinical Decision-Making Framework
DAY 2 – Vertical Soft Tissue Augmentation (VIBE / MPT)
Morning:
- Biological rationale for vertical tissue augmentation
- VIBE (Vertical Incision Bilaminar Elevation): Principles and Indications
- Case Selection and Limitations
Afternoon:
Wet Lab: A Pig Jaw Under the Microscope
Supervised hands-on training covering VIBE (Vertical Incision Bilaminar Elevation) incision design and bilaminar elevation, MPT (Modified Platform Technique) vertical augmentation, and microsurgical suturing protocols. Principles of tissue thickness management, contour stability, the transition from TU to TN, and complication prevention are integrated as live commentary throughout the wet lab.
DAY 3 – Integration: From Design to Tissue Stability
Morning:
- Linking Morphology and Tissue Volume
- Sequencing: design → augmentation → restoration
- Control of the Restorative–Periodontal Interface
Afternoon:
- Advanced Case Presentations
- Long-term stability analysis
- Clinical Problem-Solving and Discussion
- Q&A
