ABOUT THE COURSE
The core philosophy of this course is PRESERVATION — preserving ridge dimensions, preserving tissues, and preserving future treatment options. Every extraction initiates biological changes, and the clinician’s decisions at this moment largely determine whether the site remains predictable or becomes compromised.
This course focuses on what to do immediately after extraction, based on socket morphology, risk assessment, and long-term implant planning.
THEORETICAL PART
- Ridge dimensional changes following tooth extraction
- Post-extraction socket: to graft or not to graft?
- Graft materials: indications, limitations, and material selection
- Flap vs. flapless approaches — biological and clinical consequences
- Decision criteria: intact socket vs. compromised socket
- Intact socket treatment strategies
- Immediate, early, or delayed implant placement
- Risk assessment, including aesthetic risk assessment in the aesthetic zone
- Immediately placed implants
- Partial Extraction Therapy (PET)
- Biological background and literature
- Root submergence therapy
- Socket shield: indications, preparation, and execution
- Compromised socket treatment strategies
- mIVAN technique
- post-ex implant
- Composite tuberosity bone graft
- Complications and complication management
Soft tissue management is addressed as part of preservation and stability, not as a standalone topic. In post-extraction therapy, hard-tissue preservation without soft-tissue control is biologically incomplete.
HANDS-ON SESSION
Socket Type 1 – Preservation
- Socket preservation with particulate graft and membrane
- Connective tissue graft in a double-pouch technique (subepithelial CTG harvesting)
Compromised Socket
- Composite tuberosity bone graft
- mIVAN technique (Pedicled palatal connective tissue graft harvesting)
- post-ex implant with grafting
Partial Extraction Therapy
- Root submergence therapy
- Socket shield preparation
- Immediate post-extraction implant placement with socket shield
Snjezana Pohl began her professional journey in human medicine in Zagreb before continuing her education in dentistry in Germany, where she trained at LMU Munich while raising a young family. A defining moment in her career came during her oral surgery residency and later through advanced soft tissue training, which shaped her preservation-oriented, periodontally driven approach to treatment. With over 25 years of clinical experience, she has performed extensive surgical work in the aesthetic zone, published original techniques in peer-reviewed journals, and educated dentists worldwide. Today, she focuses on diagnosis, surgical planning, advanced clinical procedures, and mentoring the next generation of clinicians through education.
